Eagles Split with Argos on Day Two

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The NU Eagles split with Great Falls in today's doubleheader winning the conference  game in the morning, 14-5 in five innings and dropping the afternoon game, 11-3 in 6 innings.
 
Game 1 – Northwest U 14, Great Falls 5 (5 innings)
 
The Eagles erupted for 14 runs on 11 hits as designate player, Savannah Rush drove in 6 runs in the Cascade Conference this morning.  Rush was 3 for 4 with 6 RBIs, including a grand slam in the 5th inning to put the game away.
 
NU took a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Yeawa Asabi scored the first run on a fielder's choice. Rush then came up with a two out, 2-run double to score Allie Anderegg and Darian Godfrey. UGF rallied for two runs in their half of the first inning on a Kylie Gonzalez 2-run home run to make it a 3-2 ball game.
 
UGF then tied the game in the 2nd inning as Jocelyn Kaufman led off with a solo home run off NU starter, Stephanie Granger.
 
NU's then took charge of the game in the top of the 3rd scoring 6 runs on 6 hits off UGF starting pitcher Shelby Abeyta. Maggie Harshaw scored when Alicia Loiler hit an infield single off Abeyta. Aubrey Slocum then came through with a double to right field scoring Savannah Rush and Karrie Barnes. After a UGF pitching change, Yeawa Asabi hit a 2-run single driving in Courtney Heard and Slocum. Maggie Harshaw hit a two out single to center with Darian Godfrey scoring putting the Eagles up 9-3.

 UGF answered with two runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning getting two runs on 5 hits, but the Eagles held 3 runners left on base.

In the 5th inning for NU, Aubrey Slocum came across home plate after Danielle Bonksy was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Savannah Rush then step up to the plate a drove the ball over the fence for a grand slam home run.  NU then retired the Argos in the bottom of the 5th inning to end the game on the 8 run rule.
 
In addition to Rush's big day at the plate, Northwest U (7-15, 3-9 CCC) got a  2 for 3, 2 RBI game from Yeawa Asabi who also scored twice and Aubrey Slocum went 1 for 3, scored twice and drove in 2 RBIs. Darian Godfrey was 1 for 2 and scored 3 times. Rachel Hawley earned the win in relief for the Eagles pitching 2.2 innings, giving up just one hit and 0 runs.
Great Falls (10-11, 3-9 CCC) was led by Kylie Gonzalez who went 1 for 2, scored twice and had 2 RBI's. Bailey Henderson was 2 for 3 and score twice and Jocelyn Kaufman was 2 for 3, scored once and had 1 RBI. Mikayla Deigan took the loss for the Argos in the circle.
 
Game 2 – Argos 11, NU 3 (6 innings)
 
In the second game, it would be Great Falls turning the tables on the Eagles with a 15 hit attack as they earned an 11-3, 6 inning non-conference victory in the final game of the series. UGF overcame a 3-0 deficit scoring 11 runs in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings for the win.
 
Savannah Rush hit her second home run of the day as she cleared the fence driving in Allie Anderegg who had walked to open the inning and giving NU the 2-0 lead.
 
The Eagles added one more run in the 3rd inning when UGF pitcher, Brie Clifford walked Darian Godfrey with the bases loaded. NU led 3—0.
 
After Rachel Hawley and the Eagle defense had held UGF scoreless for three inning, the Argos got things going in the bottom of the 4th with the big hit Gabrielle Canibeyaz's 2-run single.  NU walked in another run with the bases loaded and Kimberly McAdams drove in another with a single. The Argos scored their fifth run on one of 3 Eagle errors in the inning giving them a 5-3 lead.
 
Great Falls scored two more runs in the 5th and then scored another four runs in the 6th on 6 hits to end the game on the eight run rule.
 
Savannah Rush led the Eagles (7-16) with a 1 for 3, 1 RBI game while scoring once. Danielle Bonsky and Alicia Loiler both went 1 for 2 as NU managed just three hits in the game. Rachel Hawley took the loss pitching for Northwest U.
 
UGF (11-11) pitchers, Brie Clifford and Kristina George combined for the 3-hitter with Clifford giving up three hits in 5 innings for the win. Morgan Robinson was 3 for 5 from the plate with 2 RBIs; Jackie Thomas scored twice, went 2 for 4 with one RBI; and Gabrielle Canibeya was 2 for 4, scored twice and had 2 RBIs for the Argonauts.
 
Northwest U returns to Kirkland and will host the College of Idaho next Friday and Saturday in doubleheaders scheduled for Everest Park in Kirkland unless weather forces changes to the schedule.
