Box Score 2 KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University and Northwest Christian split their conference opener tonight with NCU taking the first game, 7-3, and Northwest University coming from behind for an exciting 7-6 win.
Game 1 – Northwest Christian 7, Northwest U 3
Northwest Christian came back from a 3-0 deficit scoring two runs in the 6th and three runs in the seventh for a 7-3 victory. NCU took an early 1-0 lead getting one run in the top of the first and added another run in the fourth to go up 2-0. Northwest U came back in the bottom of the fourth to score three runs on three hits to take a 3-2 lead. NCU came up with two runs in the 6th inning, one on a NU error and another on a bases loaded walk by NU pitcher,
Rachel Hawley. The Beacons got some insurance runs in the 7th inning on another bases loaded walk Two more runs scored on an infield single by Ereanna Higbee to make it a 7-3 final score.
Ereanna Higbee was big at the plate for Northwest Christian (1-6, 1-0 CCC) with a 3 for 4 game and 4 RBI's. Katie Walker earned the win in the circle for NCU scattering 8 NU hits while striking out 7.
Aubrey Slocum was 2 for 4 for Northwest U (3-5, 0-1 CCC) with teammate Danielle Bonksy going 2 for 3.
Rachel Hawley took the loss for the Eagles.
Game 2 – Northwest U 7, Northwest Christian 6
It looked like it might be a Northwest Christian sweep as the Beacons shut out the Eagles 6-0 for four innings with the help of two home runs in the first inning by Paige Griffith and Avery Daniels. But Northwest U came up with four runs in the 5th inning highlighted by a three run triple by
Mikayla Wells to cut the Beacon lead to 6-4. In the bottom of the 7th,
Courtney Heard came through with a two out double to center and then, with two runners on, Aubrey Slocum hit a walk off double to knock in the game winner.
Freshman
Rachel Hawley earned the win in relief going 5 innings, giving up 2 hits and holding the Beacons scoreless.
Mikayla Wells was 1 for 4 with 3 RBI's;
Courtney Heard 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's and Aubrey Slocum was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI's
Avery Daniels was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's for Northwest Christian (1-7, 1-1 CCC) and Paige Griffith was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Madi Noveli was 1 for 2 with one RBI.
