NU Takes Weekend Series from Carroll

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University swept the afternoon's doubleheader with Carroll College defeating the Fighting Saints, 5-2 and 6-0 to take the weekend series 3-1. The Eagles got complete games from pitchers Rachel Hawley and Hannah Yelas in the victories.
 
Game 1 – Northwest U 5, Carroll 2
 
Northwest U's bats came alive for 10 hits as the Eagles defeated Carroll College, 5-2 in game one of the twin bill. NU's Rachel Hawley scattered 6 hits to get the win in the circle.
 
Aubrey Slocum scored on an error in the 1st inning to give NU a 1-0 lead, but Carroll would come right back in the 5th inning to tie the game on Kendall Mooney's lead off solo home run.
 
The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie through 3 ½ innings when the Eagle scored three runs in the bottom of the 4th to take a 4-1 lead. Allie Anderegg led off with a double to start the inning and would then score on Savannah Rush's 2-run home run over the center field fence putting NU in front, 3-1. Aubrey Slocum then hit a two out double to left center to drive in Maggie Harshaw to make it a 4-1 game.
 
Carroll cut the NU lead to 4-2 in their half of the 5th when Ashley Davis scored on a fielder's choice, but Northwest U came back to get one run in the 6th inning after Savannah Rush and Yeawa Asabi led off with back-to-back singles. Asabi would later score on a single by Maggie Harshaw to put the Eagles ahead, 5-2.
 
Hawley and the NU defense would hold Carroll scoreless he final two innings to get the conference win.
 
Savannah Rush led Northwest U (11-23, 6-15 CCC) with a 3 for 3 day at the plate, scoring once and finishing with 2 RBIs. Maggie Harshaw was 2 for 3 with one RBI and Aubrey Slocum was 1 for 3, one RBI and scored once. Hawley struck out 5 and walked only 3 in 7 innings facing 29 batters.
 
Carroll's (12-14. 8-20 CCC) Courtney Schroeder went 5.1 innings, giving up 5 runs on 10 hits. Kendall Mooney was 1 for 3, scored a run and had 1 RBI while teammate, Jaylin Kenney was 1 for 4 with I RBI.
 
Game 2 – NU 6, Saints 0
 
Hannah Yelas had her best day in the circle this season as she pitched a 2-hitter on her way to a 6-0 shutout victory over the Saints in the non-conference finale this afternoon at Everest Park. The Eagle continued with hot bats with 11 hits.
 
NU opened the scoring in the first inning when Savannah Rush continued her hot bat as she singled in Aubrey Slocum. Their other run came when Alicia Loiler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give NU a 2-0 lead.
 
Allies Anderegg singled in Darian Godfrey who had doubled to center earlier to put the Eagles up 3-0 in the 4th inning. The Eagles added some insurance in the 6th inning when Yeawa hit a double with the bases loaded to score three more runs giving Northwest U the 6-0 lead.
 
The Eagles then retired the Saints in order in the 7th inning to post the 6-0 non-conference win.
 
Yelas was solid in the circle for Northwest U (12-23) pitching a complete game, striking out 4 and not allowing a base on balls. Darian Godfrey was 3 for 3, and scored three times. Savannah Rush was 3 for 4, scored once and had 1 RBI. Yeawa Asabi was 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs and Maggie Harshaw was 2 for 3.
 
Brooke Brown went 6 innings for Carroll (12-15) giving up 6 runs on 11 hits while facing 34 NU batters. Megan McCormick and Brittany Smith had the two hits for the Saints.
 
Said NU head coach, Montessa Califano after the games: "Things are falling into place for us; at the end of the day, we've practiced situations; we've taken the reps; we've worked on the outside; and we've worked on the inside." At this point it's about playing it out, having confidence, enjoying this game and making memories. I'm smiling and enjoying every minute."
