NU Drops Two to Oregon Tech

Savannah Rush went 5 for 7 in the games today
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech put together big innings in both games as they swept today's doubleheader from the NU Eagles, 17-2 and 11-7. The teams played under sunny skies and an 11 mph wind.
 
Game 1 – Oregon Tech 17, NU 2 (5 innings)
 
Oregon Tech scored a total of 15 runs in two innings to defeat the NU Eagles 17-2 in five innings in game one of today's doubleheader.
 
Leading 2-1, OIT came up with 7 runs in the 3rd inning on 3 hits. Tara Moates came through with a 3 run double with two outs for the big hit of the inning. The, in the 4th inning the Owls broke the game open with 8 runs on 6 hits and 3 costly Eagle errors. Tara Moates had the big hit again for OIT as she hit a grand slam home run over the left field fence to make it 16-1 and Ali Graham finished the scoring with her two out single to make it 17-1.
 
NU got one run back in the 5th inning when Savannah Rush singled to right field scoring Yeawa Asabi to end the scoring for the Eagles.
 
Savannah Rush was 3 for 3 for Northwest U (13-27, 6-19 CCC) while Darian Godfrey was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Aubrey Slocum was 1 for 3 and scored a run. Rachel Hawley took the loss in the circle and pitched 4 innings for NU.
 
Oregon Tech (28-13, 18-7 CCC) was led by Tara Moates with a big day at the plate going 4 for 4, scoring 3 runs and driving in 9 RBIs. Ali Graham was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and Cassidy Hoglund was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and scored 2 runs for the Owls. Loryn Williams earned the win in the circle pitching 4 innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run.
 
Game 2 – Oregon Tech 11, NU 7
 
Oregon Tech rallied from a 7-3 deficit scoring 8 runs in the 5th and 6th inning for a come from behind 11-7 conference victory to win the second game.
 
NU took a 6-0 lead after the first three innings of the game. Savannah Rush doubled in Yeawa Asabi in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. The Eagles then came up with 3 runs in the second inning with Rush coming up with another big hit, a 2-run double scoring Darian Godfrey and Aubrey Slocum. NU then made it a 6-0 game in the 3rd inning with 2 more runs on 2 hits. Carly Tighe scored after doubling to lead off the inning and Aubrey Slocum drove in Maggie Harshaw.
 
Oregon Tech scored three runs in their half of the 3rd inning on 4 hits to close the gap to 6-3.
 
NU's Carly Tighe then hit a sacrifice fly in the 4th inning to score Yeawa Asabi who had reached base on a throwing error.
 
Tech began their come back in the 5th inning when they would come up with 3 runs highlighted by Rashaun Sells' 2-run home run over the center field fence. Ali Graham followed that with a solo home run to make it a 7-6 game.
 
Oregon Tech would then take the lead in the 6th inning with 5 runs on 5 hits. The big would be Sadie Birch's 3-run home run. The Eagles would not be able to get anything going in the 7th inning as OIT would hold on for the victory.
 
Northwest U (13-28, 6-20 CCC) was led by Savannah Rush's 2 for 4 and 2 RBIs. Carly Tighe and Aubrey Slocum each went 1 for 3, scored a run and drove in 1 RBI for the Eagles. Stephanie Granger took the loss pitching in relief.
 
For Oregon Tech (29-13, 19-7 CCC), Tara Moates was 3 for 3, scored 3 times and had 3 RBIs to lead toe Owls. Rashaun Sells went 3 for 4, scored twice and added 3 RBIs while teammate Sadie Birch was 1 for 4 with 3 RBIs.
 
NU and OIT play again on Saturday morning with the first game beginning at 11 am.
