KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The NU Eagles ended their 2017 season today as Oregon Tech took both games of the doubleheader, 8-4, and 7-0. It was another sunny day in Klamath Falls with a slight wind blowing in from center field.
Game 1 – Oregon Tech 8, NU 4
The OIT Owls came back from a 4-3 deficit to defeat the NU Eagles, 8-4, in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
With Oregon Tech leading 3-1, Northwest U came up with three runs in the 4th inning to take a 4-3 lead. Savannah Rush continued her hot streak at the plate with a lead off, solo home run to right field to tie the game at 3-3. Danielle Bonsky then hit a 2-run single which scored Carly Tighe and Maggie Harshaw to give the Eagles a 4-3 lead.
OIT got one run back on a fielder's choice in the 4th inning to tie the game at 4-4. The Owls then scored two runs in the 5th inning off two run scoring singles for a 6-4 lead and then added more runs in the 6th inning when Sadie Birch hit a 2-run home run over the left field fence.
Danielle Bonsky led the Eagles (13-29, 6-21 CCC) going 2 for 3 from the plate and driving in 3 RBIs. Savannah Rush was 3 for 4, scored once and had one RBI. Hannah Yelas took the loss in the circle going 6 innings and giving up 16 hits and 8 runs.
Oregon Tech (30-13, 20-7 CCC) was led by Sadie Birch who was 2 for 4 and had 3 RBIs. Tara Moates went 2 for 3, scored three times and drove in one RBI. Karly Leveque was 3 for 3 with one RBI. Loryn Williams recorded the win pitching for the Owls.
Game 2 – Owls 7, Eagles 0
Two Oregon Tech pitchers combined for a 2-hitter as the Owls swept the weekend series with Northwest U, taking today's second game 7-0.
Allie Graham and Kellie Scott pitched in the circle for OIT and gave up two hits, one each to Allie Anderegg and Savannah Rush, for the win.
The Owls scored all 7 of their runs in the first three innings and then held NU scoreless. Graham and Scott only issued one base on balls for the game allowing just three base runners.
Rashaun Sells singled in a run and Sadie Birch hit a 2-run single to center to give OIT a 3-0 in the first inning. Ali Graham then singled in a run in the 2nd inning for a 4-0 Owl lead.
Sells singled in two more runs in the 3rd inning and teammate and Sadie Birch came through with a run scoring single as OIT built a 7-0.
The Eagles were unable to get things going the remainder of the game as Oregon Tech posted their 31st win of the season.
Rachel Hawley took the loss in the circle for Northwest U as the Eagles finished the season with a 13-30 overall record.
Sells and Birch both went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs for Oregon Tech (31-13) while Ali Graham picked up the win pitching 4 innings and giving up one hit to improve to 8-1 for the season. OT advances to the first round of the CCC post season tournament which begins next week in Salem Ore.
