Mounties Take Two From Eagles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LA GRANDE, Ore. – Hits were hard to come by for Northwest U as Eastern Oregon takes the final two games of their four game series, 1-0 and 6-0, today at Peggy Anderson Park. EOU pitchers limited the Eagles to five hits in each game.
 
Game 1 – EOU 1, NU 0
 
The Mountaineers turned the tables on the Eagles after losing 1-0 in yesterday's first game and defeated NU 1-0 in another pitching duel. This morning, it was NU's Rachel Hawley and EOU's Hailey Kline giving up a total of 11 hits between the two teams with Kline coming out on top with a 5 hitter.
 
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the 5th inning when Lauren Burchak singled up the middle with two outs to drive in Jorden Gerlach who had gotten on base with an infield single.
 
Kline (13-5) went 7 innings giving up the five hits and striking out 7 NU batters. The Eagles left 5 base runners on base.
 
Northwest U (9-21, 4-14 CCC) was led by Danielle Bonsky and Allie Anderegg who both went 2 for 3 from the plate with Darian Godfrey getting the other hit for the Eagles. Rachel Hawley (7-11) took the loss in the circle with a solid 6-hit effort, walking just three and striking out 6 EOU batters.
 
Taylor Gerlach was 3 for 3 for Eastern Oregon (21-11, 13-5 CCC) while Lauren Burchak was 1 for 2 and the winning RBI.
 
Game 2 – EOU 6, Northwest U 0

 
Haylie Van Laethem limited the Eagles to 5 hits in game two as the Mountaineers swept the doubleheader from the Eagles with a 6-0 shutout victory. Van Laethem was on the losing end of yesterday's 1-0 shutout by the Eagles.
 
EOU opened up the scoring early as they took a 2—0 lead in the first inning on a single by Maryssa Santi which scored Cheyenne Barker and Chelsea Spanier scored on an illegal pitch called by the home plate umpire.
 
The Mounties scored a single run in the third inning and then got two more runs in the 4th inning on errors by the Eagles. Maryssa Santi drove in the final run of the day in the 5th inning with a double to left center scoring Chelsea Spanier who had doubled earlier.
 
The Eagles' (9-22) Danielle Bonsky was 2 for 3 from the plate as NU left four runners stranded in the game. Stephanie Granger went 6 innings, giving up 6 runs on 9 hits to take the loss.
 
Eastern Oregon (22-11) was led by Cheyenne Barker who went 2 for 2, scored twice and had 2 RBIs along with teammate Maryssa Santi who was 2 for 3 and 2 RBIs. Chelsea Spanier was 2 for 3 and scored two runs for the Mountaineers. Haylie Van Laethem earned the win going 7 innings, giving up 5 hits and holding the Eagles scoreless.

 
NU returns home to Kirkland and will host Carroll College of Montana next weekend in a four game series.
