Sine Top Finisher in SPU Dual Meet

Riley Sine (#200) took top honors in the dual meet today for the men
SEATTLE, Wash. Riley Sine finished first in the men's 7200m run today as the Eagles took on the Falcons in a rare dual meet at Magnuson Park in Seattle. NU's Sarah Estabrook picked up where she left off last season taking third for the women amongst a solid field of SPU runners in the 4800m distance.

Weather conditions for today's meet were good with temperatures in the low 80's and a slight breeze out of the north.

With the lower score the sum total placing of a teams' runners, SPU defeated the men and women in the meet, but several of the Eagles notched good finishes. SPU women scored 18 points to NU's 45 and on the men's side, it was the Falcon men in a closer 23-37 final score.

In addition to Sine's top finish at 22:47.68 for the men, Kyle Cole took 4th, covering the distance in 24:03.51. Craig Lambert was 10th, in at 25:22.99. Other Eagles were: Gino Bruce (25:40.91), Brian Guisinger (27:23.34) and Carter Dornfeld (29:51.61).

"It was a gutsy performance from our men's group today," said Mark Mandi, Eagle head coach. "I thought we had a strong one-two punch with Riley winning the meet and Kyle Cole a few spots behind him. Once our group gets a few more reps of these longer distances I think the back end of our group will be solid."

For the women, Estabrook ran the course in 17:45.22 in amongst seven SPU runners in the top 10. Lily Engelbrekt was 9th at 19:03.25. Mia Valerio was 11th and in at 20:08.04 and Quinn Dhaenens 12th (20:22.99). Also running for the team was Megan Golling (20:54.05) and Leila Praino (21:08.07).

Mandi continued, "Really pleased by how our women began the season. Most of them ran a faster pace for this race than the 3k time trial we ran a a couple of weeks back so things are definitely headed in the right direction. We held back some key runners today so once we race our complete women's team they going to do some special things this year."
