KIRKLAND – Northwest celebrates the New Year's weekend with Oregon Tech visiting at 3 p.m. on Saturday and Southern Oregon coming in for a 3 p.m. game on Sunday.
 
The games were originally scheduled for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, but poor travel conditions forced a one-day postponement.
 
In compliance with King County's mandate, Northwest University requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test, administered by a professional, within 72 hours of the scheduled start time.  
 
Northwest is coming off of a 110-102 loss at Multnomah. Devontae Powell (20), Kalai Akaka (18), and AJ Chappell (16) had career-scoring highs. Daniel Sharpe added 17 points, Connor Drinkwine 16, and Rayvaughn Bolton 10.
 
Daniel Sharpe has looked more like his 2020-21 version of himself, averaging 16.3 points over the last three games to raise his season average to 6.8 points per game. In that same span, Rayvaughn Bolton is averaging 16 points, and Devante Powell is at 14.3. Bolton has averaged a team-leading 7.3 rebounds, and Jason Brown Jr. has 4.1 assists per game.
 
Oregon Tech owns a 31-11 record in the series with Northwest, but the Eagles got the win the last time the teams met in Kirkland in December 2019.
 
Oregon Tech leads the Cascade Collegiate Conference at 5-0 with an 8-5 overall record. The Owls have four players averaging 10 or more points, led by Garret Albrecht at 12.8. Albrecht also leads with 7.4 rebounds per game. Scotty Burge leads the CCC with 51.9 percent shooting from three-point range. The Owls are 12th nationally in three-point shooting at 39.1 and 13th in field goal percentage at 49.9. OIT also is 18th nationally with +9.4.
 
Southern Oregon has a 23-17 edge on Northwest in their all-time rivalry. NU won the last meeting in Kirkland in December 2019, 73-72.
 
Southern Oregon is 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference after a 75-69 win over Corban on Dec. 18. The Raiders play at Evergreen State on Saturday. Former Eagle Josh Meyer leads the Raiders with 16.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
