TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Dawson Andrews brought the Northwest cross country season to a close when he crossed the finish line at the NAIA National Championships in 96th place on Friday morning.
Â
Running in a field of 326 runners, Andrews finished the eight-kilometer race in 25:28.2.Â
Â
"It's always a great opportunity to represent at the national championships, and he gave it his best effort," said NU Head Coach
Mark Mandi of Andrews' run. "Unfortunately, he was pretty far back after the first 1km and couldn't dig his way out of that. He still ran tough and put up a good fight. As a competitor, he's disappointed with the outcome. But we're really proud of him, and we love that through it all, Dawson's hope is to honor God."
Â
Andrews was in 130th at the first checkpoint but passed 16 runners over the next 1,000 meters and nine more by the three-kilometer mark. At the halfway point, Andrews was in 103rd position. With one kilometer left, he peaked at 90th place.Â
Â
This was his fourth appearance at the national meet. He placed 214th in 2019, 44th in 2020, and 243rd last year.
