KIRKLAND - Head Coach Gary McIntosh signs Joao Lucas Fonseca to the 2023 men's soccer roster.

Fonseca, a 6'0" center midfielder, is from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. A junior, who previously played at Northeastern Junior College, Fonseca earned NJCAA Academic First Team All-American honors and is a five-time President's Honor Roll achiever. Off the field, Fonseca served in the student government as vice president and was the first international student as an ASG officer since 1941.

McIntosh says, "Joao will bring experience to the holding mid position for us. He is coming from a good college. Having played collegiately, Joao's experience will help us right away. He is a big presence in the middle of the field and makes smart decisions on the ball.  Joao's play will make everyone around him better."

Son of Viviane Cerquiera and Gillian Fonseca, Joao is a business administration major.
