No. 20 Concordia Downs Eagles in Three Sets

Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - No. 20-ranked Concordia University posted its 11th sweep of the season with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-21) victory over  Northwest University on Friday night.

The Cavaliers never trailed in the opening two sets, taking early 9-4 leads in both frames. Northwest was held to a .059 hitting percentage in the opener while the Cavs opened up as much as a 10-point lead at 21-11, following a combined block by Mariah Raudsepp and Lindsay Mangan.

Mangan helped the Cavaliers to a 21-11 advantage in the second set as well, setting up a successful kill by Brianna Hogan for their biggest lead in the set. A pair of Brenna Huwe kills pushed Concordia to its second set point where Raudsepp ended it with one of her eight kills.

In set three and with kills by Hogan, the Cavs established a 7-3 lead. The eagles rallied to tie the set at 12-12 and took a one-point lead on two occasions, 13-12 and 14-13. The Eagles' second lead came via a strong swing by Rae Ann Hastings with an assist from teammate Christina Gleb.  But from there, the Cavs rattled off six straight points, two on aces from Shantel Gritsch, before settling for the four-point, 25-21, win.

Rae Ann Haistings led Northwest (6-15, 2-9 CCC) with 8 kills with teammates Olivia VanDlac and Sarah Stoker each adding 7 kills each. Setter Christina Gleb had a team high 26 assists and 10 digs for a double-double.  Freshman Leia Roy led the Eagles with 14 digs.

Brianna Hogan led the Cavaliers (17-4, 10-2 CCC) with a match high 14 kills. Brenna Huwe added 12 kills and hit .370 for the night. CU hit .355 as a team tonight and Lindsay Mangan tied with NU's Christina Gleb for assist honors with 26. Leslie Hanks had 13 digs for Concordia.

NU will remain in Portland and will play Warner Pacific tomorrow night at 7 p.m. while Concordia entertains Evergreen at home.
