Eagles Edge Evergreen, Remain in First Place

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University improved to 11-2 in conference play with a 3-2 victory over the Evergreen State College on a stormy and wind-blown afternoon on the NU Athletic Field. With the win, NU maintains their hold on first place in the CCC by one point (33) over Corban (32).
 
NU's Edgar Esquivel scored the game winner at the 77:07 mark after teammate Mackenzie Samuelsen's shot glanced off an ESC player to Esquivel who finished from 6 yards out.
 
Northwest's freshman Jacob Weaver started out a two goal day putting the Eagle up 1-0 when he took a through ball from teammate Brendon Wheeler and chipped the ball over the TESC keeper's head for the score 5 minutes into the game. In the 50th minute, Evergreen would tie the score in the 48th minute when Joseph Adamofe put one into the upper right corner from 30 yards out. The teams would head into halftime knotted up at 1-1.
 
Jacob Weaver got his second goal at the 62:33 mark on another through ball, this time from Edgar Esquivel as his 12 yard shot was tipped by the Geoducks keeper and sailed into the net.
 
It was then Esquivel getting what proved to be the game winner in the 78th minute. Evergreen would keep battling and make things interesting in the 86th minute when Kodey Eley intercepted a bad clear from the corner by Northwest to drill a 30 yarder to cut the NU lead to one goal. The Northwest defense would toughen and hold off the Geoducks in the final minutes to maintain their hold on first place in the CCC.
 
Evergreen (7-7-3, 5-6-2) outshot Northwest 12-9 and corner kicks were even at 2 per team. Mauricio Sanchez had 1 save in goal for Evergreen while Joe Galbraith made 2 saves for the Eagles in goal. It was a physical game with 6 yellow cards and 33 fouls called.

"I'm really proud of the guys today for putting the effort in to get the win," stated Gary McIntosh, NU head coach. "Overall I felt everyone played well in tough conditions. Joe (Galbraith) had another good game for us in goal. Our center mids did a solid job in the second half helping us keep possession. It's great for the seniors to finish their careers with a memorable season."
 
Northwest U. will remain at home and close out the regular season with a crucial game with Corban for the CCC title.
