Late RMC Goal Edges Eagles

Box Score

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Rocky Mountain College women's soccer team used a goal from Sydney Galletti in the 83rd minute to defeat Northwest University 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Cascade/Frontier Red Lion Challenge being played at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex.

Northwest (RV, 1-5) would get on the board first as Acacia Johnson (Puyallup, Wash.) scored in the game's 10th minute. Johnson received a pass from Shea Samuelsen (Woodinville, Wash.) and then finished for her second goal of the season. The eagles would lose goalkeeper Patty Hughes to an injury at the 14 minute mark and would be replaced by Lauren Patefield. The Eagles would also be without starters Rachel Saleen and Shea Smuelsen, also lost to injuries in the first half.

Galletti would draw No. 24 Rocky Mountain (4-1) even in the 26th minute on a strike that was set-up by the first of three Therese Hagbyhn assists in the game. Rocky would take the 2-1 lead in the 56th minute as Hagbyhn created a scoring chance for Evelina Aberg.

Kelsey Greene (Sherwood, Ore.) would notch the equalizer for Northwest just three minutes later on a penalty kick. The game would remain even until Galletti's double gave Rocky its second win of the weekend.

Rocky had a slim 19-15 edge in total shots during the game with each team putting 12 of their chances on net. Galletti led RMC with four shot attempts while Johnson and Samuelsen had five shots apiece for NU.

Malin Johansson recorded 10 saves in the Rocky goal to earn the victory. The loss went to Lauren Patefiled who made eight stops after coming on in the 14th minute.

"Rocky Mountain came through with the late goal that beat us today," said Val Seid, Eagle head coach, "but I felt our team played well. We possessed the ball well and did a good job of moving the ball. I felt our defense good job as well. It's a bit frustrating because we felt we played well enough to win in spite of losing Patty Hughes, Rachel Saleen and Shea Samuelsen to first half injuries."

The Eagles travel to Everett on Sept. 13 to play Trinity Lutheran and will then play host to TLC on Sept. 27 in two con-conference games.
