Eagles Force Yotes to Five Sets

Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – Sierra Porter led a furious rally by the College of Idaho, as the Lady Yotes rallied from two sets down to topple Northwest University, 17-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-14, 15-11 inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The junior setter had nine kills, 44 assists, 20 digs, and six blocks, helping the Yotes (12-8, 9-2 CCC) complete a four-game sweep of their recent home stand and remain a game out of first place in the Cascade Conference race.

Set one would see seven ties before NU would take a 12-11 lead on a Rae Ann Haistings kill. A C of I error and Leia Roy service ace would grow the Eagle lead to 16-11 as NU would maintain the lead the remainder of the way for the set win.

The second set would be like the first with a tight early going until NU would break an 11-11 tie and a Hannah Hanson kill and Yote attack error would make it 16-13 as NU would not allow C of I to gain any ground and would go on to win the set.

C of I would heat up in the third set and take a 17-9 after an Eagle attack error.  A kill by Emily Ottinger and three straight NU miscues would end the set in favor of the Yotes, 25-13.

The Eagles would keep set three close early in the set, but the Yotes would outscore NU 11-2 after an 8-8 tie to lead 19-10. C of I would maintain the momentum on their way to the set win and force a fifth and deciding set.

In the fifth set, C of I would take a 10-7 lead and would not allow NU to get any closer as Kylie Porter's kill would give the 5 set match to the Yotes.

The Eagles (9-13, 2-9) got 12 kills from Dakota Adams and forced 31 C of I hitting errors – but could not close out C of I.  Adams hit .300 for the match and teammate, Rae Ann Haistings, had 11 kills Morgan Pilon had 26 assists and Leia Roy had 22 digs for NU. Amanda Waterman contributed 13 digs for the match.

Kylie Porter had 17 kills and seven blocks for C of I, with Emily Ottinger adding 14. Kilee Lopez added 22 digs and Cheyan Coburn made 16 digs for the Lady Yotes.

"Obviously a disappointment to go up two sets and end up on the short end of a 5 set match but C of I is a strong team and we knew it would be challenging to beat them in their gym," said Steven Bain, Eagle volleyball coach. "Even so, I was not surprised by our effort. Our players have been working hard every week to make the changes that will make us successful and they are beginning to see a return on that investment."

The Eagles return home to Kirkland and will host Warner Pacific and Concordia next weekend.
