Eagles Just Get By Hot Shooting Wolves

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University held off an upset minded and hot shooting Walla Walla team with a narrow, 73-70 win in a non-conference contest this afternoon.
 
Northwest (4-2) got 25 points and 8 rebounds from C.J. Carter on 8 for 15 shooting as the Wolves from Walla Walla heated up to shoot 45% in the second half and dropping down 6 of 17 three pointers. NU held a slight edge at half, taking a 34-32 lead at the break.
 
A Paul Loranger free throw would put NU up 32-29 with 2:06 left in the first half, but Tyreek Luckett would hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 32-32 with 1:29 on the clock. Tomas Ogbaslassie would give the Eagle the 34-32 halftime lead with a driving layup at the 1:01 mark to end the scoring in the period.
 
Northwest U would lead the entire second half and would push their lead to 9 points, but each time WWU would score to prevent a double digit lead for the Eagles. C.J. Carter would hit four straight free throws in the final 28 seconds to give NU a 72-65 lead as Jordan Spady would hit Walla Walla's 14th three-pointer with 6 seconds left in the game to make the final score 73-70.
 
Walla Walla (0-8) got a team high 24 points from Tyreek Luckett who shot 50% for the game (9-18). Jordan Spady and Ethan Osias both scored 13 for Walla Walla. Jordan Spady and Ethan Osias each scored 13 for Walla Walla.
 
In addition to Carter's team high 25, Dak Shagren scored 12 points and Tomas Ogbaslassie dropped in 10 points for Northwest U. Marko Nikolic led the Eagles with 9 rebounds. NU just won the rebounding battle with a slim, 34-33 advantage on the boards.
 
Northwest U travels to Newberg, Ore., tomorrow to play George Fox University in another non-conference contest.
