Eagles Shutout SOU, Go 2-0 on Road Trip

Johnson scored her 7th goal, the game winner today
Box Score ASHLAND, Ore. – Northwest University's Acacia Johnson scored the lone goal of the game as the Eagles shutout host Southern Oregon, 1-0, this morning in Cascade Conference play to improve to 2-0 in league play and sweep their weekend series with Oregon Tech and the Raiders. SOU drops to 1-1 in the CCC.

The teams played virtually even with 13 shots each and 5 corner kicks per team, but it was Johnson taking Tatyana Reveles' pass on the right side and rolled in a 10 yarder at the 74:49 mark in the second half. NU goalkeeper Patty Hughes earns the shutout holding the Raiders scoreless and coming through with 4 key saves in the second half to preserve the victory for the Eagles.

The teams battled to a scoreless 0-0 tie in the first half, but the Eagles came close in a two minute period when a header by Annie-Brynn (Stauffer) Gleason, a shot by Tiffany Taylor and another by Acacia Johnson forced SOU keeper, Devon Walker to make three straight saves. The Eagles had two more shots stopped by Walker in the 31st minute to keep the lid on the goal and the game scoreless in the period.

NU's Hughes had 6 saves on the day and two important saves: one in the 79th minute when she stopped Haylee Eckart's shot and another in the 87th minute when Hughes stopped Eckart once again to keep the Raiders off the scoreboard.

"Our ladies played a heck of a game today against a very good SOU team," said Val Seid, NU head coach. "We are getting healthy, so having the subs available has been a blessing. Today, it was about showing themselves and the conference we are a legitimate threat this year. I'm very proud of them."

Johnson led Northwest U (4-5-1, 2-0 CCC) with 4 shots, 3 shots on goal. Presley Lambert had three shots for Southern Oregon (2-7-0, 1-1 CCC). Devon Walker had 7 saves in goal for the Raiders.

Northwest U will remain on the road next week and travel to Olympia next Saturday to play Evergreen at 2 p.m.
