Knights Drop Eagles in Four Sets

Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific defeated Northwest University, 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 25-23, 25-15), for a Cascade Conference victory tonight.

After taking an early 5-3 in the first set, Warner Pacific led the entire set on their way to a25-16 win. With the Knights leading 17-11, Northwest would pull to within three, 17-14, as WPC would maintain the slim lead. Up 19-16, Warner Pac would score the final 6 points of the set for the win aided by four kills a service ace. Devan Belshe had three of the four kills to help close out the set.

In the second set and with the score tied at 6-6, NU would take a slim lead with the help of kills by Arika Zwack and Dakota Adams to put the Eagles up 8-6. NU would increase their lead to 21-15 and they would go on to win the set.

Set three would see Northwest lead early, 8-4, but three service aces by Janessa White and a kill by Nicole Kincaide would help the Knights tie the score at 9-all. Cara Wonsley's kills would give WPC their first lead as the set would remain close the entire way. Mattie Jo Johnson's kill would cut the WPC lead to 24-23, but an NU service error would give the set win to Warner Pacific.

In the final set, Warner Pacific start fast and lead 12-6 aided by a Brittany Bevens kill and two errors by the Eagles. Northwest would pull to within three, 13-10 capped off by Mattie Jo Johnson's kill, but a 7-2 run by the Knights would increase their lead to 20-12 after three straight Bevens' kills. Leading 22-15, three straight kills would end the set and match as the Knights would even their CCC record at 1-1 and NU would drop to 0-2 on the first weekend of league play.

Amanda Waterman led Northwest U (6-6, 0-2 CCC) with 10 kills and 7 digs. Christina Gleb had a team high 17 assists and Morgan Pilon added 17 assists. Leia Roy led the team once again in digs with 16 for the match.

Warner Pacific (3-4, 1-1 CCC) was led by Janessa White who finished with a match high 20 kills. Marchelle Bostic led the Knights with a team and match high 46 assists while teammate Kelsey Merritt had a team high 19 digs. WPC outhit Northwest .252 to .184.

Northwest U returns to Kirkland and will host St. Martin's on Tues., Sept. 9, in a non-conference match.
