Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Christian took the lead early and maintained it the entire game on their way to an 86-74 league victory over the NU Eagles tonight in the Morse Event Center.
The Beacons opened the game fast as they would break out to an early 20-6 lead on the Eagles in the first 7:45 of the first half. NCU would score 10 point off 13 NU turnovers in the half. The Eagles would cut the Beacon lead to 9 three times during the period, but that would be the closest they would come as
Dak Shagren would hit a contested 3-pointer at the buzzer to make it a 42-31 game at halftime. NCU hit 52 percent of their shots in the first half while NU hit a respectable 46 percent. Austin Kuemper scored 13 of his game high 25 in the first half for Northwest Christian.
NCU would continue to lead in the second half and Jack Hackman's 3-pointer with 10:45 on the clock would grow the Beacon lead to 20, 61-41, their largest of the game.
Tomas Ogbaslassie would heat up in the second half for NU scoring 13 of his 16 points while
C.J. Carter would drop in 17 of his 19 points in the second half. The Eagles shooting would improve to 53 percent in the period, but it wouldn't be enough to catch the Beacons who were hitting 57 percent of their attempts.
Carter's 19 would lead Northwest U (12-11, 2-9 CCC) with
Dak Shagren scoring 17 points hitting 5 of 9 from beyond the 3-point line.
Tomas Ogbaslassie scored 16 points for the Eagles. NU shot 87 percent from the free throw line (13-15). NU outrebounded NCU 28-25 with 11 offensive rebounds.
Northwest Christian (14-6, 7-4 CCC) was led by Austin Kuemper's 25 points and 8 rebounds. Javonte Byrd contributed 18 points and teammate Travis Pacos added 15 for the Beacons who shot 54 percent as a team for the contest.
NU returns home to Kirkland and will host Evergreen on Saturday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Pavilion.
