Warriors Sweep Eagles for Second Time

Box Score SALEM, Ore. – No. 22 Corban University swept the NU Eagles for the second time this season with a straight set, 25-20, 25-20, 25-18, victory in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. Corban improves to 12-3 in Cascade Conference play while the Eagles fall to 10-5.

With the first set tied at 16-16 Corban would go on a 4-0 scoring run after two errors by the Eagles and a kill by Adriana Aguayo, to lead 20-16 as they would go on to win 25-20.

After six ties and the score knotted at 16-16 once again, Corban would take an 18-16 lead with two straight kills. A Corban error would make it 18-17, but the Warriors would never give up the lead the rest of the way as two straight kills by Alaina Gentili would end the set.

An early 12-6 would be all that Corban would need as they would maintain that lead the remainder of the way and end the set and match with a service ace by Rachell Smith.

Northwest U (13-7, 10-5 CCC) was led by Mattie Jo Johnson's 7 kills and 27 assists by Morgan Pilon. Amanda Waterman and Alysanne Van Dyke would come up with 16 digs each to lead the Eagles. NU hit .147 as a team for the match.

Alaina Gentili led three Corban players with double figure kills with 16 (.483 hitting percentage) while teammate Amber Parker added 14 and Adriana Aguayo contributed 11. Parker also had 13 digs for a double-double. Madison McClain had a match high 39 assists and Haley Wells a match high 25 digs for the Warriors.

"This match was much like the first," said Eagle head coach, Steven Bain. "We were able to play well for brief periods of time but couldn't sustain anything against a very good Corban team. They dominated in the side out game and offensively we were not able to convert in transition and they were with predictable results. We need to let this one go and prepare for what will surely be a tough match against Northwest Christian."

Northwest U now moves on to Eugene for a 1 p.m. match at Northwest Christian on Saturday.
