KIRKLAND – Northwest heads to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament for a Tuesday match against top-seeded Warner Pacific at 11 a.m. in Springfield, Oregon.
Â
With the Cascade Collegiate Conference taking last season off from the postseason, the Eagles haven't had a postseason game since 2019. Northwest made a first-round exit that season. NU has lost five consecutive postseason games, dating back to a semifinal win over Evergreen State in 2014. Four of those five losses were by shutout. This will be Warner Pacific's first trip to the postseason since 2015.Â
Â
Warner Pacific claimed a 3-1 win in Kirkland on Oct. 15, getting goals by Arturo Bahena and Maurio Sanchez. WPU's second goal was an own goal.
Jonathan Toscano scored for the Eagles.
Â
WPU has a five-game unbeaten string in the series with the Eagles, including wins in each of the last three meetings. Northwest last won in 2017, 3-0, which was also the last shutout by either team in the series. The all-time series is locked up at 10-10-3.
Â
While Northwest does battle with Warner Pacific at 11 a.m., Evergreen State squares off with Oregon Tech. The other two quarterfinal contests begin at 2 p.m. The College of Idaho meets Corban, and Southern Oregon takes on Rocky Mountain. All quarterfinal and semifinal games are at Willamalane Park in Springfield, Oregon. Both semifinal games are at 4 p.m. on Wednesday with the championship moving to Civic Park in Eugene at noon on Friday.
Â
Northwest finished on the bottom of a three-way tiebreaker for the eighth seed in the tournament. The draw reshuffles based on remaining teams, meaning the Eagles will get the top-seeded team remaining in each round. It also means that Northwest has to win all three games to advance to the NAIA Opening Round.
Â
Elliot Misic has goals in seven of the last 11 NU games, with nine goals and two assists in that span. He has the third-best single-season total in NU history with 15.
Bryan Chud holds the top two spots with 22 and 17. He also is second in the single-season record books with 36 points and five game-winning goals. Misic is third in career goals with 27 and tied for first in career game-winning goals with eight.
Â
With 82 saves,
Alexander Thiehofe is fourth in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. He is fifth all time at Northwest with 174. He also is fourth with 10 career shutouts. He has a 1.55 goals-against average this season. Thiehofe earned CCC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his two shutouts to close the regular season.
Â
Arturo Bahena leads the Cascade Collegiate Conference with 39 points on 15 goals and nine assists. He shares the CCC goals lead with
Elliot Misic. Alexis Calderilla-Hurtado is second in the league with a 0.61 goals-allowed average. He has a conference-best seven shutouts.Â
Â
The Knights tied Oregon Tech in their regular-season finale and have a nine-game unbeaten streak. Despite being 15-2-1 overall, 11-1-1 in the CCC, and the top seed in the tournament, WPU is only receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25.
