KIRKLAND, WA - Prepare for a career in coaching or leading athletic programs in schools, community organizations, and small businesses in the Athletic Leadership Masters of Education program.
Designed for educators who are working full time, the on-campus classes meet during the evenings, on Saturdays, and over the summer months. Most of our M.Ed. courses are also hybrid classes. This means you'll only meet at NU once or twice a month, with other learning taking place online. It's the best of both worlds: face-to-face interaction with professors and colleagues, without fighting traffic every week.
Increasingly, advanced degrees are common, if not necessary, in private and public school settings. Our M.Ed. offers you increased expertise, which often leads to increased leadership opportunities in schools and at the district level.
An education that will advance your career is more affordable than you might think. In fact, our tuition is among the most competitive you'll find. Furthermore, once you've graduated, there's a good chance that a pay raise will accompany your accomplishment.
You'll learn from experienced professors as well as master practitioners teaching in local schools. A master's degree from NU's College of Education is highly regarded in the profession and will give you the practical tools you're seeking.
Current student of the Athletic Leadership program at NU Morgan Marshall says, "My time in the M.Ed. Athletic Leadership program has been very beneficial to my long-term goals. By going through the program, I have been able to develop a deeper understanding of how to be successful in athletics. I have recently accepted a job working at Everett Community College as an assistant basketball coach with the women's team, I feel strongly that the Athletic Leadership program has helped me understand how athletics works on the inside."
In addition, classmate and 2023 graduate Maya DuChesne has assumed the role of Sports Information Director at NU, after sparking an interest during her time as an M.Ed. student.
"One of the factors I appreciate most about the Athletic Leadership program is that our professors have first-hand experience," says DuChesne. "In return, our professors share real-life examples of what it is like to be a professional in administration. Dr. Gary McIntosh has over 20 years of experience and has developed a strong set of tools that he is willing to share with us all. Enrolling in the Athletic Leadership program after my undergrad was one of the best decisions I have made in my collegiate career, and I hope to see more NU students be a part of that."
