Eagles Fought Hard Against Corban and the Elements

SEATTLE, WA - The Northwest beach volleyball team hosted Corban for day one at Alki Beach but could not secure the win, falling to the #2 Warriors 4-1 in order of 4, 2, 3, 5, 1.

The Eagles and Warriors had to brave the elements as annoying winds and torrential rains barreled down on the players, throwing a couple games off course. Despite the loss to the Warriors, the Eagles fought resoundingly. No. 2 pairs Masa Spela Jarc and Aubree Dees were able to take one of the Warriors most lethal pairs Cammie Masanda and Danae Strokes to three sets after winning the first set 21-14. However, Masanda and Strokes regained form and took the game, winning the next two sets 21-8 and 15-12.

No. 1 pairs Caitlyn James and Kylie Lunday secured the lone Eagles win with a long, yet spirited game against Emma Bischoff and Megan Dennis. After falling in the first set 21-17, James and Lunday brushed off the sand and rebounded in the second set with a 21-17 win of their own and a euphoric 15-12 win in the third set.

The Eagles will play Bushnell and Corban on Saturday to close out Alki Beach.

"From the first time we faced Corban we have come a long way in such a short amount of time," said Head Coach Meng Bak. "I'm happy with the big improvements I've seen from all the pairs. They fought hard and stayed resilient against the warriors. We are excited to play them one more time tomorrow."
