SPOKANE, Wash. – The Northwest University track and field team turned in an impressive weekend at the Whitworth Indoor Invitational, highlighted by multiple record-setting performances and a national qualifying mark.
Senior Jenisha Green continued her standout season by breaking the school record in the weight throw. Green posted a mark of 13.33 meters, surpassing the previous record by 1.5 meters and leading a strong showing in the throws.
Freshman Noah Ushikubo made an immediate impact in his collegiate debut. Competing in his first 60-meter dash, Ushikubo ran 7.15 to match the school record in the event, capping an impressive first meet in an Eagles' uniform.
Rachel Elliott added to the weekend's momentum with a national qualifying performance in the 800 meters. Elliott clocked a time of 2:17.08 to secure a national qualifying spot, earning her place on the national stage.
Head Coach Mark Mandi praised the team's efforts following the meet.
"We had several special performances in Spokane," said Mandi. "Rachel Elliott ran an amazing race in the 800m to hit her first national qualifying time in her career. I'm thankful that she competes with so much joy and a heart for the Lord. She's worked extremely hard to get to this point, and Coach Corban has done a great job in getting her the right training to be both physically and mentally prepared to compete.
"Jenisha Green smashed the school record in the weight throw. She and Coach Erica have been so excited to see her make breakthroughs in practice, and I'm so glad for Jenisha that she was able to take that momentum into the competition.
"In his collegiate debut, Noah Ushikubo tied the school record for the 60m dash and barely missed it at 200m. He's been a great addition to our team with his hard work and positive attitude. His strong start should help build excitement, not just for himself but also for his training group.
"A lot to praise God for and excited to keep things rolling."
The Eagles will look to build on the momentum from Spokane as they continue the indoor season in the coming weeks.
