CORVALLIS, Ore. / TACOMA, Wash. — The Northwest University track and field team competed across two meets over the weekend, sending a group of distance runners to the PNW Invitational in Corvallis, Oregon, hosted by Oregon State University, while the rest of the squad competed at the Brad Moore Invitational in Tacoma, Washington.
At the PNW Invitational, Andres Bustamante, Christian Chi, Preston Hopp, and Josiah Jaquith represented the Eagles against a deep field of competition.
Meanwhile in Tacoma, both the NU men's and women's teams turned in strong performances at the Brad Moore Invitational, each finishing 6th overall.
Northwest was highlighted by a standout day from Rachell Elliot, who claimed first place in the women's 800m and added a second-place finish in the women's 1500m. Jarron Ransford contributed on the men's side with a 6th-place finish in the 800m. In the field events, Evelyn Tomka continued her strong season with a 2nd-place finish in the women's javelin. On the men's side, Leve Nichols placed 3rd in the 5000m, while Brennan Koontz added a 5th-place finish in the same event.
The Eagles have now secured four Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship qualifiers across recent meets. At the PLU Open (March 13-14), Isaiah Hollinger qualified in the javelin with a mark of 52.08m, placing 2nd and meeting the conference standard. Tomka also earned her qualification at that meet with a throw of 35.34m, finishing 2nd.
This past weekend saw two more Eagles punch their tickets to the conference championships. At the PNW Invitational, Josiah Jaquith qualified in the 5000m with a time of 14:54, placing 13th and meeting the standard. At the Brad Moore Invitational, Luke Posey secured his spot with a 2nd-place finish in the javelin, recording a throw of 48.82m. The Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships are set for May 8-9.
This weekend, Northwest will travel to Tacoma, Washington next weekend to compete at the Peyton Shotwell Invitational, hosted by the University of Puget Sound on March 28.
