KIRKLAND, Wash. — The Northwest University men's and women's track and field teams split competition this weekend, with one Eagle competing on the national stage and several others racing in Tacoma.

Middle-distance runner Rachel Elliott represented Northwest at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Gainesville. Elliott qualified for the national meet in the 800 meters, earning the opportunity to compete against the top athletes from across the NAIA. Her appearance at the national championship marks a significant milestone for both Elliott and the Eagles program.

Head Coach Mark Mandi reflected on Elliott's experience at the national meet.

"Rachel got to experience her first national championships and was able to gain a lot from it," said Mandi. "She faced some strong adversity, but I thought she handled it with a ton of grace. Always great to see the strong character God has formed in someone in those tough moments."

Meanwhile, distance runners Levi Nichols, Brennan Koontz, and Emri Butcher competed at the Ed Boitano Invitational in Tacoma. The trio raced in the 10,000 meters against a competitive field, gaining valuable experience and early-season marks as the outdoor season continued.

"For the 10k group at the Ed B. meet, they made the most of their opportunity, either coming away with personal bests or being right near them," Mandi added. "That was a great start to their outdoor season and we hope to keep that momentum going."

The Eagles will look to build on this weekend's performances as they prepare for upcoming meets later this spring.
