BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Northwest University track and field turned in a strong weekend of competition at two meets hosted by Western Washington University, competing at the Pee Wee Halsell Invitational on Friday, April 24, and the Ralph Vernacchia Invite on Saturday, April 25.
The Eagles saw success across both days, highlighted by multiple top finishes and two key Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) qualifying marks.
At Friday's Pee Wee Halsell Invitational, the distance group delivered an impressive showing in the men's 5000 meters. Sam Knight finished second, followed by Brennan Koontz in fourth and William Lanser in fifth, giving the Eagles three top-five finishers in the event. In the men's 800 meters, Josiah Jaquith placed seventh.
Northwest carried that momentum into Saturday. At the Ralph Vernacchia Invite, Rachel Elliott led the way with a second-place finish in the women's 1500 meters. The men's 4x400 relay team also earned a runner-up finish, while Ethan White placed seventh in the triple jump.
Two Eagles also secured CCC qualifying marks over the weekend. White capitalized on his final opportunity to qualify, hitting marks in both the triple jump (12.30m) and long jump (6.47m). Elliott continued her standout season in the 1500 meters, running a 4:38.84—an improvement of 13 seconds—to move well under the conference qualifying standard. Her time now sits just three seconds off both the Northwest school record and the NAIA 'B' standard.
Northwest will look to build on the momentum as the outdoor season continues and postseason competition approaches.
