Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – After scoring a total of 5 goals in their previous 4 games, Northwest University opened up and scored a 7-1 victory over the College of Idaho this afternoon under sunny and warm conditions on the NU Athletic Field.
Jessie Nicholl opened the scoring for the Eagles 5:50 into the game when the ball was deflected off the goal post, finishing from the corner 8 yards out. The College of Idaho answered in the 33
rd minute when Sarah Hicks beat her defender and put a left footer into the upper right corner to tie the score at 1-1. Summer Jackson had the assist on the score.
At the 34:56 mark,
Acacia Johnson took a through ball off
Rachel Saleen's pass to score from 16 yards out and into the lower left corner. Saleen was then on the scoring end in the 37
th minute as she put in
Kelsey Greene's corner kick, shooting from the near post. Northwest would take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
3:59 into the second half, senior Shea Samuelsen scored on a free kick from 25 yards out on the right side as her shot cleared the Yote goalkeeper's arms and into upper left corner of the net. Samuelsen then laid a cross to Jessica Oliver who headed it over Aimee Pierson, C of I goalkeeper (59:31).
NU Sophomore defender,
Samantha Porter, dribbled by her defender on the left side and put her shot into the upper right side of the net at 88:31.
Chloe Beauchamp finished the Eagle scoring with 42 seconds remaining after taking
Lina Arciniegas' cross.
Northwest (7-5-1, 3-0-1 CCC) held a slight edge on the shots with a 17-12 margin over the College of Idaho (3-9, 1-4 CCC) with 12 of NU's shots coming in the second half.
Patty Hughes earned the win for NU with 5 saves for the day while Melis Holmes-Joseph and Aimee Pierson each played a half for the C of I grabbing one save each.
"I was very pleased to see us convert on our opportunities today," said NU coach Val Seid. "We've been working hard on finishing and we were finally rewarded for our efforts. Our ladies were relentless right until the final horn today and that's what we strive for every day. Now, we'll prepare for Eastern Oregon on Saturday."
Northwest will host Eastern Oregon on Saturday in another key CCC game for the Eagles. The College of Idaho will travel to Olympia to play Evergreen on Saturday.
