Eagle Women Drop Wolves to Open Season

The Eagle defense forced 33 Walla Walla turnovers tonight.
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - The NU Eagles women's basketball team got off to a good start to their 2013-14 season with a convincing 74-48 victory over Walla Walla University tonight in the NU Pavilion. New NU head coach, Ken Crawford, notched his first victory as the Eagles' coach.

Northwest's defense was in good form tonight as they forced 33  Walla Walla turnovers for 29 points. The Eagles had a 48-4 advantage in the paint and the NU bench outscored the thin WWU bench 26-4.

Sanda Milovic led the Eagles (1-0) with a double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. 13 Eagles saw playing time tonight and 12 put points on the scoreboard. Chanara Greene had 9 points and 7 rebounds while Domi Mendezona and Alyssa Dario each scored 8 points for NU. Ashley Coila did not score but had a team high 4 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds.

The Wolves (0-1) got 20 points from Michaela Garcia and 13 points from Abbey Manzano. NU out rebounded Walla Walla 43-36 including 15 offensive rebounds.

Eagle head coach, Ken Crawford said following the game, "Great effort tonight by our young ladies. I was pleased with how hard we worked and I thought we played with a lot of enthusiasm. We still have lots to learn, but it was a good start."
