Box Score NANAIMO, B.C. – Vancouver Island University outscored Northwest University 14-13 in the two final periods to hold for a 64-52 non-conference victory over the Eagles tonight.
After a 20-20 deadlock at the end of the first quarter and playing FIBA rules, the eagles would be held to 6 points while VIU would score 16 in the second to take a 36-26 lead into halftime. NU would shoot 32% in the half while the Mariners would hit 54% of their shots.
The Eagles would keep the second half close and would trail 50-39 at the end of the third quarter. VIU would outscore Northwest U. 14-13 in the final quarter for the 64-52 win.
Sanda Milovic led Northwest U. (1-1) with 11 points and 5 rebounds.
Chanara Greene and Kristian Frey each scored 7 for the Eagles who shot 30% for the game. Ashley Coila and
Jordan Asher each contributed 6 points for NU. The Eagles held a 40-38 edge in rebounding.
"We fell short tonight, but it's early in the season," stated
Ken Crawford, NU head coach. "and we're still growing as a team. We look forward to playing them again tomorrow so we can work out the kinks."
Northwest and VIU will go at it again on Saturday with game time scheduled for 12 p.m. to allow the Eagles to catch a ferry back to the mainland and the trip back to Kirkland.
