Big Second Half Lifts Eagles Over PLU

Jordan Asher led the Eagles with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University outscored Pacific Lutheran 42-30 in the second half for a 69-59 non-conference win tonight in the NU Pavilion. NU came back from a 29-27 deficit.
 
The first half would be tight all the way with 5 ties and 5 lead changes in the period. Sanda Milovic hit a jumper with 2:37 on the clock to tie the score at 25-25, but PLU's Samantha Porter would hit a driving lay-in to give the Lutes a 27-25 lead. NU's Corinne Burke would get to the basket for a score, tying the game once again (27-27), But Chrissy Swope's jumper with 3 seconds to go would give the Lutes a narrow, 29-27 lead at the half.
 
With 17:11 remaining in the second half, PLU would find themselves up 35-32, but Domi Mendezona's driving lay-in would ignite a 9-2 Northwest run as two scores in the paint by Chanara Greene and a Jordan Asher jumper would put the Eagles ahead for good, 45-37. PLU would make it a 45-43 ball game with 9:40 to go, but the Eagles would get another 9-2 spurt capped off by Ashley Coila's score in the paint to increase their lead to 9, 54-45 at the 6:56 mark as Northwest would close out the game for their 7th win of the season.
 
Northwest (7-4) hit 47% of their shots in the second period as Jordan Asher (Puyallup, Wash.) finished with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to lead Northwest U. Senior Domi Mendezona (Issaquah, Wash.) also scored 12 and added 5 assists while teammate Alyssa Dario (Caldwell, Idaho) dropped in 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The Eagles hit 13 of 18 from the free throw line (72%).
 
Pacific Lutheran (2-4) was led by Samantha Potter's 19 points followed by Katelyn Smith who contributed 14 points and 9 rebounds for the Lutes. Megan Abdo scored 12 and finished with 7 rebounds as the Lutes held a 47-43 rebounding advantage. PLU shot 33% for the game while only shooting 6% from the 3-point line hitting just one of 16 attempts.

"It was a solid win tonight over a well-coached and hard playing PLU team," commented NU head coach Ken Crawford. "I continue to be excited about our effort on the court."

Northwest will play again tomorrow night at home when Quest University from B.C. comes to Kirkland for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference contest.
