Corban Pulls Away to Defeat Eagles

Box Score SALEM, Ore. – Corban University used a 11-0 run to open the second half to break open a close contest and score a 62-54 victory over Northwest University tonight in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

Holding onto a slim 25-24 lead at halftime, Corban would come out of the gates fast to start the second half and hit the first 11 points of the period to take a 36-24 lead which the Eagles would not be able to overcome.  3-pointers by Corban's Jade Lowery and Julia Young along with two free throws by Young would push the Warrior lead to 12 with 17:10 remaining in the game. But, the Eagles would not go away easily as they slowly chipped away at the Corban lead after Corban would lead 45-34. Free throws by Domi Mendezona and Jenna Lewis would cut the Warrior lead to three, 45-42, with 6:28 to go in the game, but Jade Lowery's 3-pointer with 3:19 to go would push the Corban lead to 7, 51-44. Corban would hit 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to earn the victory and remain unbeaten in CCC play.

Jordan Asher led Northwest U. (9-5, 2-2 CCC) with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Alyssa Dario would add 11 points and 8 rebounds and Sanda Milovic added 9 points and 5 rebounds before fouling out late in the game. NU would hit 28% of their shots (18-65) and just 16% of their 3-point attempts (4 for 25). The Eagles did shoot an impressive 92% from the free throw line making 14 of 15 attempts. Rebounds were even at 44 per team.

Corban (7-7, 3—0 CCC) was led by Julia Lowery's game high 20 points. JuliaYoung added 14 for the Warriors who shot 31% for the night and 25% from the 3-point line (6-24).

"It was a tough loss tonight," said NU head coach, Ken Crawford. "We didn't play with the consistency we needed to play with on the road. The holiday break is coming at a good time and we look forward to getting back into action soon."

The Eagles will take a short break and return to play on Sat., Dec. 28, when they host Whitworth in the Pavilion at 2 p.m.
