Eagles Drop Yotes in Overtime

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - A 15-6 scoring spurt in overtime would be the difference as  Northwest University earned a 91-82 overtime win over the College of Idaho to open Cascade Conference play tonight. 
 
The College of Idaho would maintain the lead for most of the first half. Northwest would lead briefly after the 12 minute mark following a 4-0 run to lead 21-18 after a jumper by Chanara Greene and a jumper by Ashley Coila. Sienna Edmunson would give the lead back to the Yotes, 25-23, with her 3-pointer with 7:47 showing on the clock. The Eagles would battle back and lead briefly with 1:50 to go in the half after Kristen Frey's jumper (36-35), but the Yotes would come back once again and Chakala Cartmen's two free throws with 5 seconds to go would give C of I a 39-37 lead as the teams would head to the locker room.
 
C of I would come out fast in the second half and increase their lead to 8, 52-44 with 16 minutes left. That lead would stretch to 10, 65-55, with 9:46 to go in the game, but a 9-0 Northwest run would make it a one point ball game, 65-64, at the 6 minute mark after Sanda Milovic's 3-pointer. With 47 seconds left in the game, Chanara Greene's tip-in would give the Eagles a 76-74 lead, but Elisha Hensey would hit one of two free throws to make it 76-75 with 16 seconds on the clock. Following a time out, Chakala Cartmen would make a single free throw to tie the game with 7 seconds remaining to send the contest into overtime.
 
In the extra period, Northwest would outscore the Yotes 11-2 after an 80-80 tie as a Greene jumper would give the Eagles the lead for good with 2:07 to go.
 
Northwest U. (6-3, 1-0 CCC) was led by Sanda Milovic's 20 points with junior post, Chanara Greene, scoring 16 and grabbing 8 rebounds. Alyssa Dario added 14 points and had 6 assists. Domi Mendezona scored 11 and handed out 4 assists for the Eagles who shot 45% for the game.
 
The College of Idaho (3-5, 0-1 CCC) Chakala Carthen finished with a game high double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Dayna Drager scored 16 while teammates Erica Martinez and Elisha Hensey each dropped in 15 for the Yotes. C of I shot 44% on the night and went 0-2 from 3-point range in the second half after a 5 for 12 first period.
 
"It was a gutsy win for our ladies tonight," said Ken Crawford, NU head coach. "I'm proud of the way our team hung in there even being down 10 in the second half and kept battling. We had some player some big plays at key times to help us get the victory over a good C of I team."
 
Northwest remains home and hosts Eastern Oregon tomorrow night while the College of Idaho travels to Olympia to take on Evergreen. Both games are slated for 5:30 p.m. tip offs.
