Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University got scoring from 12 of their 14 players and they cruised past an outmanned Walla Walla University team this afternoon in the first annual Northwest/Evergreen Challenge. Walla Walla suited up 6 players having lost several recently to injury.
A layup by
Jordan Asher and a 3-pointer by Kristen Fry helped put Northwest U up 10-0 three minutes into the game. Lauren McCoy put Walla Walla on the scoreboard at 16:40 with her short jumper. A three point play by NU's
Paige Burson would put the Eagles up 25-11 with 10:47 left in the half. NU would continue to pull away from the Wolves and
Brianna Fiso would put Northwest U up 40-19 with 3:22 on the clock. Fiso's layup with 1:08 to go would give NU a 22 points lead, but WWU's Lauren Pernu would hit a jumper with 7 seconds to go to make it 44-24 at the half.
Walla Walla's lack of depth would take its toll in the second half as Northwest's bench would help the Eagles continue to build on their lead.
Hannah Carlson would get to the basket for two and push the Eagle lead to 50-25 early in the half.
Jordan Asher would score 8 straight points with two treys and a layup and make it 71-37 with 6:38 left in the game as NU would continue to grow the score to post their 4
th win of the young season.
Jordan Asher, the 2013-14 NAIA leader in three point shooting, led Northwest U (4-1) with 20 points and 4 of 8 shooting from beyond the 3 –point line. She added 4 assists to her total.
Brianna Fiso and
Jenna Lewis each scored 11 points and
Charmaine Bradford finished with 4 assists and 6 steals. The Eagles shot 48% for the game and out rebounded the Wolves 49-38.
Walla Walla (0-4) was led by Emily Fields' 15 points and 6 rebounds with teammate Lauren Pernu adding 12 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren McCoy contributed 9 rebounds for the Wolves who were held to 25% shooting for the game. Northwest U forced 33 WWU turnovers.
Play continues tomorrow with Evergreen playing Walla Walla at 6 p.m. and Northwest U taking on Simpson at 8 p.m. in Kirkland.
