Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Northwest University women's high percentage shots helped them to pull away in the second half for a 68-47 win over Simpson University in the final game of the Northwest/Evergreen Challenge tonight.
Northwest U (5-1) used 48% shooting in the first half, along with holding Simpson to 23% shooting, to take a 38-23 lead at halftime. Leading 13-12 at the 13:34 mark, the Eagles outscored Simpson 11-2 to take a 24-14 lead after a
Charity Degman jumper from 15 feet.
Jordan Asher would hit a 3-pointer with 2:25 to go in the half for a 38-23 lead at the break.
Simpson's shooting woes would continue in the second half as Northwest would grow their lead to 26 points, 62-32, after an 18-1 run with 8:08 remaining in the game. Simpson would turn things around and go on a 15-3 run of their own, closing the gap to 16, but with just 53 seconds on the clock it would not be enough as the Eagles closed things out for the victory.
Four players scored in double figures for Northwest U led by
Jordan Asher's 13 points , 4 assists and 50% shooting from 3-point range.
Hannah Carlson scored 12 points in just 12 minutes of play and had 4 offensive rebounds.
Chanara Greene and
Charmaine Bradford each scored 11 for the Eagles and the freshman guard, Bradford, added a game high 9 assists to go along with 8 rebounds. Greene had a team high 11 rebounds for a double-double. NU shot 47% for the night and out rebounded the Hawks 52-32.
Simpson (1-7) was led by Fallon Greenhaw 10 points with Esther Wofford added 9 points. Amber Huffhines scored 8 points while Katie Lenik led the Hawks with 6 rebounds. Simpson shot just 25% for the night on 15 for 60 shooting.
"I like the way all of our new players are beginning to fit into our program and philosophy," said
Ken Crawford, NU head coach. "We had 20 assists as a team and that shows we're sharing the ball and looking for the best shot available. It shows all of our young ladies are buying into the team concept."
Northwest U will take a short break and return to the court on Nov. 21 for their annual alumni game.
