Eagles Pull Away From PLU for Victory

Jordan Asher hit 5 of 6 attempts from the 3-point line tonight
Box Score PARKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University pulled away in the second half for a convincing 74-52 non-league victory over Pacific Lutheran tonight on the Names Family Court. After leading 31-30 in the first half, NU outscored the Lutes 43-22 in the second period. Today was the final day of final exams and the end of the semester for Northwest U.
 
The Eagles got off to a fast start breaking out to an early 27-12 lead after an 11-0 run capped off by a Charity Degman lay-in with 9:55 left in the half and four 3-pointers by Jordan Asher. But after PLU's third timeout in less than 3 minutes, the Lutes would outscore the Eagles 18-4 the remainder of the half to close the gap to just 31-30 as the teams headed to the locker rooms for the break.
 
PLU would take the only lead they would see in the second half, 32-31, to start the period on a score by Jori Hall. NU would then outscore the Lutes 18-6 over the next 8 minutes and Kristen Frey's 3-point play at the 12:39 mark would put Northwest U up for good at 49-38. Two free throws by Charity Degman with 6:31 to go in the game would give NU their largest lead of 21 points, 65-44, as the Eagles would have no problem closing out the game for the victory.
 
Northwest U (7-3) was led by Jordan Asher's game high 19 points hitting 5 of 6 shots from 3-point range with a 67% shooting average for the night. She added 9 rebounds. Kristen Fry scored 13 points and Hannah Carlson added 11 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Charmaine Bradford had a game high 9 assists for the Eagle who shot 54% for the game, 70% from the 3-point line.
 
PLU (3-4) was led by Jori Hall's 14 points with Megan Abdo adding 9 for the Lutes who shot 33% for the night. Northwest U out rebounded PLU 47-32 with 17 offensive boards.
 
"We learned tonight just how long a college basketball game is," said Ken Crawford, NU head coach. "There was definitely some ebb and flow to the game, especially in the first half, but our team showed great perseverance throughout and we're excited about the experience we gained."
 
NU continues play tomorrow in Seattle when they play Seattle Pacific in an exhibition game at 2 p.m.
