Corban Holds Off Eagles for Victory

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – After a 40-40 tie at halftime, Corban outscored Northwest University in the second period for a 67-60 Cascade Collegiate Conference victory tonight in the NU Pavilion.
 
Neither team could gain the upper hand in the first half as the period would see 9 ties and 8 lead changes. Chanara Greene would make one of two free throws with 1:51 left in the half to give Northwest U a one point, 38-37 lead. Danielle Vanderstoel would tie the game for the 8th time after also sinking a single free throw. Sadie Pilgeram would put Corban in the lead, 40-38 after Corban would grab Pilgeram's missed free throw, but NU's Paige Burson's offensive tip-in with 28 seconds to go in the half would tie the score for the 9th and final time for the half.
 
Back and forth the teams would go in the second half as both defenses would not allow a run until the 7:46 mark in the period when Corban would break a 51-51 tie with Chris Carlson's 3-pointer and corban would then outscore the Eagles 14-7 over a 7 minute period to lead 65-58 with 37 seconds to go as they would close out the half for the win.
 
Jade Lowery led Corban (8-6, 3-0 CCC) with 18 points and teammate Julia Young added 11. Danielle Vanderstoel contributed 10 points and 6 rebounds for the Warriors. Corban shot 40% for the game, 32% in the second half.
 
Northwest U (8-4, 2-2 CCC) was led by freshman Hannah Carlson who finished with a team high 14 points. Senior Chanara Greene scored 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Kristen Frey added 12 points for the Eagles who shot 35% for the game and only 19% in the second half.
 
"Our team is still finding their way and gaining experience with each game," said Ken Crawford. "We hit a dry spot in the second half and had trouble scoring and that proved to be the turning point in the game. We'll learn from this and continue to improve as the season moves forward and we're all looking forward to a little break before we resume play on December 30th."
