Eagles Come From Behind to Drop Yotes

Chanara Greene led NU with a double-double: 18 points, 17 rebounds
Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – Northwest University overcame an 8 point halftime deficit to defeat the College of Idaho in the opening night of Cascade Conference play in the J.A. Albertson Center. The Eagles outscored C of I 42-29 in the second half which included a 26-2 run to start the period to post their first CCC win and improve to 6-2 overall for the season.

The first half would see the College of Idaho break open a close game seven minutes into the period and they would build their lead to 12 points, 31-19, with 1:31 left in the half. C of I's zone would hold the Eagles to 30% shooting for the period on 10 of 33 shooting from the floor. Two free throws by Chanara Greene would close the Yote lead to 8 points with 15 seconds to go in the half.

The second half would be a different story as it would be the Eagles coming out of the locker room with a hot hand as they would shoot 47% in the half and hold the Yotes to 30% shooting from the field. The 26-2 run to start the period would convert the 8 point deficit to a 45-33 lead while holding the Yotes scoreless for the first 9 ½ minutes of the half.  Jordan Asher would start the NU run off with a 3-pointer followed by a Hannah Carlson layup. Asher would then steal the ball and lay it in and Chanara Greene would drill a jumper with 16:26 on the clock to give the Eagles the lead for good (34-33). Kellie Ross would finally end the Yote scoring drought at the 10:29 mark with her offensive rebound and tip-in. C of I would cut the NU lead to 3, 59-56 with 2:39 to go in the game, but the Eagles would answer with a Kristen Fry lay-in and Chanara Greene would grab an offensive rebound and score to put NU up 63-56 to help close out the game.

Chanara Greene had a big game for the Eagles (6-2, 1-0 CCC) with 18 points, 17 rebounds and 7 blocked shots. Junior Jordan Asher and freshman Hannah Carslon each scored 15 points for NU while Asher added 9 rebounds and Carlson completed the double-double with 10 rebounds. Freshman Charmaine Bradford handed out 6 assists to lead the team. NU outrebounded C of I 49-39 including 18 offensive boards.

The College of Idaho (1-9, 0-1 CCC) was led by Elisha Hensey's 17 points and 10 rebounds followed by Haylee Burnham's 16 points. Aleah Lowber added 11 points and 8 rebounds for the Yotes who shot 35% for the game.

"It was a good win for us tonight," said Ken Crawford, Eagle head coach. "I was very proud of how the team responded when the pressure was on. We continue to grow as a team."

Northwest U continues conference play tomorrow night in La Grande as they take on Eastern Oregon at 5:30 p.m.
