Eagles Hold on to Edge Concordia

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Concordia's final shot of the game missed its mark as Northwest University held on for a narrow 62-60 conference win over Concordia tonight.
 
Janae Klarich pulled Concordia to within two, 62-60 with two free throws and 1:41 remaining in the game. After a missed shot by NU, CU's Caitlyn McCutcheon's jumper would also miss the mark. Northwest would grab the rebound and run the clock down to 31 seconds. After an Eagle timeout, Jordan Asher's 14 foot shot from the free throw line would miss and Kelly Huey would grab the rebound, dribble the length of the court and her shot would draw iron as the ball would roll out of bounds as the buzzer sounded.
 
Concordia jumped out fast in the first half taking a16-8 lead as Caitlyn McCutcheon would get to the rim for the lay-in.  The Cavaliers would maintain the lead until the 6:52 mark when NU's Domi Mendezona would drive down the left side of the lane a score to give Northwest their first lead, 20-19. The Eagles would hold the lead for the next 3 minutes until Janae Klarich would drain a 3-pointer to give Concordia a 28-27 lead with 3:28 left until halftime. NU would re-take the lead by 3, but Kelley Huey would sink two free throws to cut the Eagles lead to 31-30 to end the first half scoring.
 
The second half remain as tight as the first with 5 ties and 12 lead changes until the final seconds when Northwest would pull out the narrow victory.
 
Domi Mendezona scored 14 points for Northwest U (17-10, 9-6 CCC) and Chanara Greene added 12 points and 7 rebounds. Corinne Burke added 9 and Sanda Milovic contributed 8 for the Eagles. NU shot 38% for the night.
 
Concordia (7-19, 4-10 CCC) was led by Caitlyn McCutcheon's 23 points and 14 rebounds. Janae Klarich scored 17 points and Kelly Huey dropped in 14 points and had 7 assists for the Cavaliers. CU managed 31% shooting and out rebounded NU 46-42.
 
Said Coach Ken Crawford of NU following the game, "It was a good win against a very competitive Concordia team. 16 total lead changes indicate how tight the game really was and we're happy to come away with the victory."
 
Northwest plays host to Warner Pacific tomorrow night which will be senior night for the Eagles' five seniors. Concordia travels to Olympia to take on Evergreen.
