No. 22 EOU Comes From Behind to Defeat NU

Box Score LAGRANDE, Ore. – The NU Eagle women gave No. 22 Eastern Oregon a battle tonight before falling 77-66 in Cascade Conference play. EOU had to come from behind as NU led 32-29 at the half.

Sanda Milovic's 3-pointer with 9 minutes left in the first half would give NU an 8 point, 21-13 lead over the Mountaineers. Another three pointer by Jenna Lewis and a lay-in by Olivia VanDlac would increase the Eagle lead to 13, 28-15 with 5:37 left in the period.  EOU would slowly chip away at the NU lead and Brittney Newcomb's  lay-in with 1:16 to go would cut the NU lead to just one, 30-29, Domi Mendezona would answer with 57 seconds on the clock to give the Eagles the narrow, 32-29 lead at the half.

With NU leading 39-33 early in the second half, EOU would score 7 straight points to take a 40-39 lead with 16:05 showing on the clock. Back would come NU with a 9-0 run capped off by Jordan Asher's three and Chanara Greene's jumper to help NU regain the lead, 48-40, with 13:27 left in the game. EOU would tie the game at 51-all with 10 minutes to go and after three lead changes, the Mounties would take the lead for good as Nicole Redd's two free throws with 3:44 to go would make it 70-58. The teams would trade baskets the rest of the way as Chanara Greene's jumper with 26 seconds to go would end the scoring for the game.

Sanda Milovic and Domi Mendezona would lead Northwest U (18-11, 10-7 CCC) with 15 points each. Mendezona added a game high 7 assists. Jordan Asher scored 11 points hitting 3 of 4 from the 3-point line and Chanara Greene added 10 for the Eagles who shot 46% for the night. The Eagles only got to the free throw line 6 times making all 6 of their attempts.

Eastern Oregon (21-8, 12-5 CCC) was led by Nicole Redd's 20 points while teammate Nyesha Joseph scored 17 points. Brittney Newcomb added 15 points as the Mountaineers shot 50% for the night (29-58). EOU out rebounded NU 38-22.

"I thought we gave a good effort against a nationally ranked and good Eastern Oregon team," commented Ken Crawford, NU head coach. "We played hard, but some untimely mistakes were the difference in the game tonight."

The Eagles head east to Caldwell to face the College of Idaho tomorrow night at 4:30 Pacific Time before returning to Kirkland.
