Yotes Pull Away to Defeat Eagles

Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – Cold shooting and solid defense by the College of Idaho earned the Yotes a 68-50 conference victory on the final night of CCC play. NU was limited to 16 second half points and six field goals in the second half.

The Eagles grabbed a 15-13 lead in the first half after a Sanda Milovic 3-pointer at the 14 minute mark. C of I would tie and take the lead after a score by Shakala Carthen and two free throws by Erika Martinez with 13:23 left in the half.  Jenna Lewis would cut the Yotes lead to one, 22-21, with 10 minutes on the clock, but the Yotes would respond by outscoring the Eagles 19-6 to lead 41-27 with 2:13 to go in the period. A 7-0 NU run at the end of the half would cut the C of I lead to 41-34 going into halftime.

Alyssa Dario would get NU off to a good start in the second half as she would hit a 3-pointer to make it 41-37, but then it would be all C of I as they would outscore Northwest 12-2 to grow their lead to 53-39 with 12:00 minutes left in the game. The closest NU would come would be 10, 55-45, as the Yotes would pull away to lead by 23, 68-45 with 2:50 to go as they would go on to post their 15th win of the season.

Sanda Milovic led NU (18-12, 10-8 CCC) with 13 points, all coming in the first half. Alyssa Dario scored 10 points and Chanara Greene added 9 points for the Eagles who shot a cool 30% for the game, 21% in the second half. C of I forced 20 Eagle turnovers and out rebounded the Eagles, 41-32.

The College of Idaho (15-11, 12-6 CCC) was led by Aleah Lowber's 21 points and 7 rebounds. Erica Martinez scored 16 points, Elisha Hensey 11 points, and 10 points by Dayna Drager. C of I shot 38% on the night and connected on 81% of their free throws (17-21).

NU will return to Caldwell this Tuesday to play C of I in the first round of the CCC post season tournament at 7 p.m. MST. Northwest U was named the #6 seed in the final CCC standings and C of I the #3 seed.
