Raiders Take Down Eagles in Ashland

Box Score ASHLAND, Ore. – It took the NU Eagles a day and a half to get to Ashland and may have had an effect on the team as they fell to Southern Oregon 95-64, tonight in CCC play. The loss drops NU to 8-5 in league play as the Raiders improve to 9-5.

The home team Raiders jumped out early as they would take a 21-11 lead 8 minutes into the first half. Trailing 25-13 with 11:07 on the clock, the Eagles would go on an 11-3 run to make it 28-24 after a Sanda Milovic lay-in followed by Milovic's two free throws with 8:08 left in the period. Four straight SOU free throws with 4:47 on the clock, the Raiders would open up a 40-28 lead. Paige Burson would get to the basket for the Eagles to make it an 8 point ball game, 46-38, with 1:34 to go, but Brenna Anderson would get to the basket to score with 2 seconds to go to give SOU a 10-point 48-38 lead at halftime.

NU would not get off to a very good start in the second half as they would miss their first three shots and commit four turnovers as Southern Oregon would  lead by 20, 60-40, five minutes into the half. NU's woes would continue as their shooting would go cold but SOU would continue to heat up and they would stretch their lead to 29, 75-46 with 12:26 left in the game. NU would not get any closer as SOU would post their 20th win of the season.

Northwest U (16-9, 8-5 CCC) was led by Jordan Asher and Domi Mendezona with 12 points each. Asher added 7 rebounds as SOU would hold her scoreless in the 2nd half. Senior Sanda Milovic would add 8 points with Alivia Johnson and Chanara Greene each dropping in 6 points. NU shot 35% for the night and only 20% from the 3-point line.

Kristian Schoenherr led SOU (20-6, 9-5 CCC) with a game high 23 points with Brenna Anderson adding 16 points and 8 rebounds. Carly Meister added 13 points and teammate Ashley Claussen recorded a game high 8 assists. The Raiders hit 43% of their shots and 47% of their 3-point attempts (7-15). SOU won the rebounding battle, 50-43.

Said Ken Crawford, Northwest U head coach, "It was a tough loss tonight. Our challenge will be to answer the call tomorrow night at Oregon Tech, and I feel our team has the will to do so."

Northwest U now heads east to Klamath Falls to take on Oregon Tech tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m., while SOU hosts Evergreen.
