Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Christian pulled away in the second half to defeat the shorthanded NU Eagles 84-62, in Cascade Conference play tonight.
The first half would see the defenses holding one another to 30 percent shooting as NU would hit 10 of 31 attempts for 32 percent and the Beacons would go 10 for 30 for 33 percent. The half would be tightly contested with six ties and five lead changes as the two teams would battle back and forth. Two
Kristen Frey free throws would give NU an 18-15 lead and
Jenna Lewis' jumper would increase the lead to 20-15 at the 8:39 mark. MeShel Rad would break the sixth tie of the half with two free throws with one second to go in the half as NCU would take a slim, 33-32 lead.
The second half would remain a close contest until the 12:24 mark and the score knotted at 49-49. NCU would go on a 10-1 run to take a 59-50 after Hannah Frederick's single free throw. The Eagles would come within seven points, but that would be the closest they would come as the Beacons would stretch their lead to 75-59 with 2:47 to go in the game as NCU's deeper bench would takes its toll over the shorthanded Eagles.
Jordan Asher led the Eagles (10-11, 3-8 CCC) with 18 points.
Charmaine Bradford and
Chanara Greene each scored 9 with Bradford adding a team high 5 assists.
Jenna Lewis added 8 points as the Eagles managed just 30 percent shooting for the night.
Northwest Christian (8-11, 4-7 CCC) was led by Sami Pitts' 19 points followed by Melyssa Weber's 17 points. MeShel Rad and Chandler Gabrio each scored 12 for the Beacons. NCU outrebounded NU with a 53-40 margin.
"Another tough loss as we could not maintain our consistency tonight," said
Ken Crawford, NU head coach. "Northwest Christian was inspired and went on a run in the middle of the second half which proved to be too much for us. We're going to regroup and be ready for Friday night."
The Eagles will return home and will host New Hope Christian on Friday night and Evergreen on Saturday.
