Eagles Earn Second Straight Shutout

The Eagle defense was tough yielding just five shots and no corner kicks
Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The NU Eagles earned their second consecutive shutout with a 5-0 Cascade Conference victory over Multnomah completing a two day road trip that would cover over 700 miles.

The Eagles would score their only goal of the first half in the first 7:45 of the game as Kyle Zimmerman scored his 7th goal of the season as he scored unassisted when his shot from 10 yards out hit the post and bounced into the goal to put Northwest U up 1-0. NU would have their share of shots in the half, fourteen, but near misses and five saves by the MU goalkeeper, Manny Guillermo, would keep the Eagles out of the net.

The second half would be a different story as just five minutes into the period, freshman Trent Siedenburg would score from 15 yards out, past the Multnomah keeper to increase the NU lead to 2-0. Another freshman, Jake Morse, was credited for the assist on the play. 48 seconds later, senior Brendon Wheeler, would blast in a 3 yarder as the ball would sail into the right corner with teammate Jacob Weaver earning the assist.

Odason Pelogi would score for the second straight day as he would score off Mikias Repsold's shot which would rebounded into the middle of the box. Taylor Turner would cap off the Eagles scoring from five feet out off a deflection following an NU corner kick. Kieran Raney had the assist on the play.

The Northwest U (5-5, 3-2 CCC) defense was solid again this afternoon limiting Multnomah (0-9, 0-6 CCC) to five total shots in the game, just two in the first half and three in the second, while the offense powered to 33 shots, 15 shots on goal. The Eagles also had 11 corner kicks while the Lions would go without a corner.

"It was a rough start to our day," commented NU head coach, Gary McIntosh. "This has been a long trip for the team and the guys are tired, but we persevered to get the win.  It was a great play by the defense again to get the shutout and to get two conference wins on the road."

Northwest U will play its first home game of the season on October 9 when they host Oregon Tech at noon in Kirkland.
