Cold Shooting Eagles Fall to Cavaliers

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Concordia held off a late game Northwest U push as they defeated a cold shooting Eagle team, 66-61, tonight in CCC play.

Neither team would burn up the nets in the first half as the defenses held one another in check. NU managed only 9 of 33 shooting for 27 percent and Concordia just a bit better going 11 for 33 for 33 percent. Nine minutes into the half, the Eagles would hold to a slim 17-16 lead, but the Cavaliers would take a 20-17 lead after a 3-pointer by Janae Klarich and a free throw by McKenna Daly. Another trey by Klarich with 2:04 left in the half would give CU their largest lead of the period, 32-21. A jumper by Charmaine Bradford and a single free throw by Chanara Greene would cut the CU lead to 34-26 at halftime.

Concordia would maintain the lead the entire second half, but with 2:55 to go, the Eagles would pull to within one, 55-54 after a pair of free throws by Jordan Asher and a jumper by Emily Henderson. CU would then outscore NU 5-0 to increase their lead to six, 60-54, as the Eagles would get no closer than four. The Cavaliers would hit a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line down the stretch to close out the win.

Charmaine Bradford led all Northwest U (11-15, 3-12 CCC) scorers with 15 points. Kristen Frey hit 5 of 7 shots for 13 points while Chanara Greene and Jordan Asher would each drop in 11 for the Eagles. Greene added a game high 20 rebounds for a double-double and Paige Burson added 10 boards and 9 points. NU would shoot 29.6 percent for the game and own a dominating 54-46 edge in rebounding.

Concordia (12-12, 6-9 CCC) was led by Janae Klarich's 19 points while handing out a game high 9 assists. Lexi Campbell scored 17 points and Jordyn Peacock led the Cavs with 11 rebounds. CU shot 34 percent for the game and 73 percent (14-19) from the free throw line.

"A tough one for us, we didn't shoot very well tonight," said NU coach, Ken Crawford, "but we showed a lot of grit and had opportunities. We're looking forward to playing tomorrow night."

The Eagles will remain in Portland and will face Warner Pacific on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m.
