Southern Oregon Pulls Away to Defeat Eagles

Jordan Asher led NU with 24 points.
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Carly Meister scored a game high 32 points to lead No. 13 Southern Oregon to an 89-72 Cascade Conference victory over Northwest University tonight. Meister added 10 rebounds for the double-double as she hit 15 of 20 shots from the field.

Meister would help SOU build a 21-10 lead seven minutes into the half with six points and two blocks. The up tempo Raiders would extend their lead to 31-17 after a Meister offensive tip-in with seven minutes left in the half. SOU would be aided by 9 Northwest U turnovers which would lead to 14 of the Raiders points as they would take a 51-29 lead into halftime with Meister scoring 18.

Northwest U would settle down in the second half and play close to the Raiders as they would outscore SOU 43-38 in the period. But, NU would not be able to muster a run on the Raiders as they would maintain a 20-plus point lead for most of the half. Autumn Durand would hit a 3-pointer to push the SOU lead to 27 and Carly Meister would add a tip-in to extend their lead to 66-37 with 13:29 to go in the game. The Eagles would outscore SOU 21-10 and Jordan Asher's pair of free throws with 7:26 remaining would make it an 18 point game, 76-58. But, the Raiders would answer and build their lead back up to 26 on two free throws by Autumn Durand. NU would make one last run at the end, but it wouldn't be enough as SOU would post their 20th win of the season.

Northwest U (11-13, 3-10 CCC) was led by junior Jordan Asher's 24 points. Brianna Fiso added 12 points for the Eagles who shot 36 percent. Freshman Emily Henderson came off the bench to score 9 points.

Autumn Durand added 18 points for Southern Oregon (20-3, 11-3 CCC) and teammate Alexi Smith added 14 for the Raiders who shot 48 percent for the game.

"We showed a bit our youth in the first half and doubted ourselves a little against a good team," commented Coach Ken Crawford, NU head coach, "but I was proud of the way our young ladies settled down in the second half and played much better. We're still searching for our identity, but it will come as we gain more experience and confidence."

Northwest U remains at home tomorrow and will host Oregon Tech at 5:30 p.m., and Southern Oregon will travel to Olympia to play Evergreen.
