Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Oregon Tech would break a 32-32 halftime tie and pull away for an 83-74 victory over Northwest University tonight in Cascade Conference play. Five Owls scored in double figures and OIT improved to 18-9 on the season. Tech played in jerseys borrowed from Evergreen having left their uniforms behind in Klamath Falls.
The first half proved to be close the entire way as the teams battled to five ties and five lead changes. Northwest would start well early as
Chanara Greene would score two of her game high 29 points to give the Eagles a 19-13 lead with 7:57 left in the half. But a 6-0 run by OIT would tie the game and Ashleigh Vandenbrink's free throw would give the Owls a 21-19 lead. Back would come NU to regain the lead on a Kristian Frey 3-pointer and Greene would score in the paint for a 24-21 lead at the 5:17 mark. With Tech holding onto a 32-30 lead with 20 seconds to go, NU's
Morgan Jacobson would hit a jumper to tie the game at 32-all going into halftime. Tech's pressure defense forced 13 Northwest U turnovers in the period.
Oregon Tech would outscore NU 13-5 to start the second half to take an eight point lead, 45-37, three minutes into the period. Northwest would then go on a 16-5 run of their own capped off by a
Chanara Greene lay-up with 11:58 left in the game. That lead would hold for the next five minutes until Karly LeVeque would get to the rim putting the Owls in front for good with 5:15 showing on the clock. Tess Armstrong's free throw with 45 seconds left in the game would seal the victory as the Owls would be perfect from the free throw line, 8 for 8, to close out the win.
Chanara Greene led all scorers and Northwest U (11-14, 3-11 CCC) with a career high 29 points and 17 rebounds. Greene hit 12 of 16 from the field and added 5 assists. Junior
Jordan Asher would score 17 points hitting 50% of her shots (6-12). Freshman
Emily Henderson dropped in 8 points as NU would shoot 39 percent for the game. The Eagles held a 48-38 rebounding advantage including 22 offensive rebounds.
Oregon Tech (18-9, 7-8 CCC) was led by Karly LeVeque's 18 points. Ashleigh Vandenbrink scored 16 points; Megan Whetstone 15; Carrie Thibault with 12; and Tess Armstrong finished with 10 points. OIT shot 43 percent for the game and hit 30 of 37 free throws for 81 percent.
