Late Corban Comeback Spells Victory Over Eagles

Julia Young led Corban with 19 points including 10 of 11 from the free throw line
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - Corban overcame a 14 point second half deficit to defeat Northwest University 80-77, in Cascade Conference play tonight in the NU Pavilion. Julia Young led Corban (9-7, 5-3 CCC) with 19 points, sinking 11 of 12 free throws.

It looked as though Northwest U would have control of the game taking a 12 point, 45-33, halftime lead and then extending their margin to 14 points by the end of the third quarter, 61-47. NU would hold Corban to just 24 percent shooting in the first half while hitting 44 percent of their attempts.

But, The Warriors would mount a steady comeback in the fourth quarter to make up the difference. A jumper by Jordan Rasberry would cut the Eagle lead to 10 and four straight points by Payton Wilcox would make it a six point game with 5:33 showing on the clock. Northwest began struggling during that time hitting just one of seven shots. A short, five point burst by Northwest U, would increase their lead to 11, 68-57, with 4:42 left in the game, but an 11-0 run by Corban capped off by Julia Young's 3-pointer would tie the score at 68 with 2:50 to go. After an exchange of the lead, Jade Lowery would come up big with two straight 3-point shots with the second coming with 25 seconds left in the game. Kristen Frey would cut the Corban lead to one, 78-77 with 11 seconds left in the game, but Corban would hit 2 of 4 free throw attempts in the final seconds for the come-from-behind victory.

Paige Burson came off the bench for Northwest U (7-11, 3-6 CCC), scoring 21 points on 9 for 15 shooting while Jordan Asher scored 17 points for the Eagles. Miranda Langenhorst led all rebounders with 16 while adding 7 points. NU would go 8 for 12 from the free throw line (67 percent).

In addition to Young's 19, Jade Lowery scored 16 points with 9 rebounds with Sadie Pilgeram contributing 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Payton Wilcox added 15 points and 9 rebounds for the Warriors who finished the game shooting 35.5 percent. The Warriors made 25 of 33 free throws for 76 percent.

Said NU coach, Ken Crawford, "A tough loss for us tonight as we're learning lessons about making sure we play fundamentally sound basketball and playing the entire 40 minutes. Essential lessons for a young team."
