Eagles Pull Out Close Victory Over Evergreen

Box Score OLYMPIA, Wash. – The NU Eagles scored six straight points in the 1:19 of the fourth quarter to pull away for a 69-63 conference victory over the Evergreen State College tonight in the CRC Gymnasium. Senior Jordan Asher led the Eagles with 15 points and 50 percent shooting for the night.

The Eagles got off to a fast start in the first quarter as they broke out to a 16-6 lead after the first 10 minutes of the game. The teams played even at 16-16 in the second quarter as Northwest U would take a 32-22 halftime lead.

NU would lead 37-27 with 6:09 left in the third quarter after Jordan Asher jumper, but Evergreen would then begin to chip away at the Eagle lead, cutting it to just two, 46-44, when the Geoducks' Lacey organ would hit a 3-pointer with six seconds to go in the quarter.

Fifteen seconds into the fourth quarter, Evergreen would tie the game at 46-46. After the second tie of the quarter at 8:27, the Geoducks would go on a 9-3 run capped off by a Thomas jumper to put ESC ahead, 57-51, with 4:37 left in the game. But, the Eagles would not go away and five straight points by Kristen Frey would cut the ESC lead to 57-56 and Charmaine Bradford would then come up with a big steal and lay-in to give NU the lead, 58-57, at 3:32. With the game in its fourth tie of the period at 63-all with 1:19 remaining, it would be the Eagles scoring the final six points of the game on two free throws by Miranda Langenhorst, a steal and lay-in by Jordan Asher and two more free throws by Asher with 26 seconds to go to put the game away for Northwest U.

Miranda Langenhorst added 13 points and 9 rebounds for Northwest U (8-11, 4-6 CCC) with Kristen Frey adding 8 points for the Eagles. After the 52 percent second half, NU shot 47 percent for the game and 71 percent from the free throw line.

Evergreen (2-13, 2-8 CCC) was led by Uriah Thomas' 18 points and 16 rebounds. Gabi Fenumiai also recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds as the Geoducks held a substantial 45-28 margin rebounding including 21 offensive rebounds.
