No. 11 Raiders Pull Away from Eagles

Charmaine Bradford led the Eagles with 20 points
Box Score ASHLAND, Ore. – No. 11 ranked Southern Oregon bounced back from their only loss of the season last weekend to defeat the NU Eagles 105-73 tonight at Ashland High School and improve to 17-1 on the season. The Eagles dropped to 10-12 for the year and 4-7 in conference play.

Things looked good for NU in the first quarter as they would take a 13-12 lead with 5:09 left in the period, but a 10-3 run by the Raiders would erase the Eagle lead and put SOU ahead 22-16 after Ashley Claussen buried a 3-pointer with 2:40 left. A 6-0 run by NU would make it 22-20 at 1:42 after Hannah Carlson's score in the paint. Another Claussen trey would close out the period with SOU leading 27-22.

The second period would find the Eagles staying close the first two minutes, trailing by five, 31-26, after a Brianna Fiso jumper. But, the Raiders would then begin to slowly pull away and after two free throws by Sydney Mullings, SOU would lead 49-30 with 51 seconds left in the half. Paige Burson's 3-pointer would cut the SOU lead to 49-33 with 37 seconds to go, but two free throws by SOU would give them a 51-33 lead at the break.

The second half would belong to the Raiders as the Eagles would be unable to cut into their lead and SOU would lead by as many as 30 points, 69-39 with 4:46 left in the quarter. Charmaine Bradford would hit two free throws for two of her game high 20 points and Jordan Asher would follow that with a 3-pointer to make it 80-52 at the end of the third period. That would be the closest Northwest U would get as the Raiders would post their tenth CCC win against just one loss.

Charmaine Bradford left Northwest U (10-12, 4-7 CCC) with 20 points. Brianna Fiso added 12 points and 3 assists with Jordan Asher contributing 8 points and 5 rebounds. NU shot 42 percent for the game and 50 percent from the 3-point line only getting to the line 6 times.

Ashley Claussen led Southern Oregon (17-1, 10-1 CCC) with a game high 26 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds. Teammate Carly Meister scored 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.  SOU hit 61 percent of their shots in the first half and 54 percent for the game. The Raiders also converted 56 percent of their 3-point shots hitting 14 of 25 attempts.

NU now travels east to Klamath Falls to face Oregon Tech tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
