Beacons' Strong Second Half Downs Eagles

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest Christian broke a 40-40 halftime tie, outscoring the host team, Northwest University, 32-21, in the second half to post a 72-61 conference victory tonight.
 
Niki Duncan led Northwest Christian (9-6, 5-2 CCC) with 21 points with 17 points coming in the first half. In a close first half, it would be Northwest U taking a 21-19 lead at the end of the first quarter. Northwest Christian would turn the tables on the Eagles and outscore NU 21-19 in the second period as Niki Duncan would hit a 3-pointer with 27 seconds to go to tie the score going into halftime.
 
Northwest Christian would take a 51-42 at 3:46 in the third quarter after an 11-2 run to start the second half. Chandler Gabrio would hit two free throws with 21 seconds to go in the quarter to put NCU up 58-48, but Kristen Frey's tip-in with 5 seconds on the clock would close the gap to 58-50.
 
Northwest Christian would heat up once again to start the final quarter going on an 11-4 run capped off by Hanna Mack's jumper with 5:03 showing on the clock. Northwest U's shooting would go cold after shooting 46 percent in the first half, the Eagles would manage just 23 percent in the second as the Beacons would maintain the lead the remainder of the game for the victory.
 
Senior Jordan Asher led Northwest University (7-10, 3-5 CCC) with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Brianna Fiso would drop in 7 points and grab a team high 10 rebounds. The Eagles were cold from the 3-point line managing to make just two of 19 attempts from beyond the arc for 10.5 percent.
 
In addition to Duncan's 21 points, Northwest Christian got 11 points from Andrea Gloss and 9 points from Chandler Gabrio. The Beacons hit 43 percent of their shots, 36 percent from 3-point range (13-36) and 69 percent from the free throw line (11-16). NCU out rebounded Northwest U 44-40.
 
"Tonight was a game where we went cold on offense," commented NU head coach, Ken Crawford. "We continue to play hard and we continue to learn, though. It's going to be a great rest of the season."
